What It Ends (2025) Doesn’t Say Might Be What Haunts You Most

It Ends, written and directed by Alexander Ullom, has been making the festival rounds—starting at SXSW in Austin and recently screening at The Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans.

Synopsis (No Spoilers)

The film follows four longtime friends reuniting for what should be a simple college move-out trip. But as they hit the road, they find themselves trapped on a strange, endless stretch of highway—with no exits, no turns, and no clear way out. And just beyond the trees? Something is watching and waiting for them to stop.

What Worked

The flow of the movie. From the dialogue to the chemistry, the acting, and the cinematography—it all feels effortless. Even though the entire film takes place inside a car, there’s never a dull moment.

It also makes you ask the question: Who would I be in that situation? And that’s what gets the conversations going long after the credits roll.

As Ullom said, “If you’ve ever felt what it’s like to grow up, you’ll relate to this film.” And honestly? He’s right.

What Might Not Work (For Others)

If you’re not into dialogue-heavy, single-location films—or if you’re expecting nonstop horror from start to finish—this one might not hit the way you want it to.

It’s a movie that asks a lot of questions and leaves a few unanswered. Personally, I think that’s the beauty of it. But I know that’s not for everyone.

The Vibe

This is one you have to see in a theater. Pitch black, surround sound, nowhere to run. OR—if you’re brave—a road trip through the middle of nowhere could make for a perfect (and daring) watch.

It’s eerie in the beginning, intriguing through the middle, and leaves a familiar feeling behind more than a scare.

The Verdict: Watch

Definitely watch. It Ends sticks with you—and the more you sit with it, the heavier it hits.

As of the posting, the film is currently seeking U.S. distribution. Therefore, if you want to see it, you have to make some noise and let these distributors know.
