Is Drop (2025) the Perfect Date Night Movie?

Drop made its world premiere at SXSW and was also featured at The Overlook Film Festival, where director Christopher Landon has been front and center promoting the film.

Synopsis (No Spoilers)

Drop follows Violet, a widowed mother who decides to re-enter the dating scene through a dating app. But what starts as a seemingly sweet evening takes a dark turn when she begins receiving disturbing images dropped to her phone. Click here to watch spoiler-free synopsis! 🍿

What Worked

As Landon said in a recent interview, this film is like a roller coaster—slowly building suspense before taking off with a bang.

There were a ton of fun, chaotic moments that had both festival audiences laughing and gasping. It’s sharp, clever, and leaves you constantly questioning everyone.

What Might Not Work (For Others)

The pacing might be hit or miss for some. As I mentioned, it starts slow—deliberate, suspense-building—but picks up steam as the film goes on.

Also, if you're looking for a deadly serious thriller with zero humor... this is not that. There's definitely some playful energy mixed strategically in the chaos.

The Vibe

This is one to watch in a comfy theater—surround sound, lounge chair, good meal, good drink. Let yourself get pulled into the world of this story.

It’s the perfect first date-night thriller. Suspenseful, fun, and slightly chaotic... just like dating.

The Verdict: Watch

Drop is fun, exciting, and—most importantly—original.

There’s been so much talk about how unoriginal films feel lately, and this is one of those rare moments where a studio actually listened. For that reason (amongst many others), I’m rooting for this one.

Drop hits theaters April 11. Get your tickets here! 🎟️
